The brain controls it all

November 02 2006

Why does eating feel so good? The US researchers feel that the answer lies in the head and not the stomach. Tests on rat show that the appetite hormone Ghrelin acts on pleasure receptors in the brain.

Ghrelin is produced in the gut and triggers the brain to promote eating. Several hormones are known to be involved in eating and appetite, and studies have shown that influencing them can affect weight gain. However, the trial has been on rats and mice and influencing human eating behavior has proven far more difficult.

However, experts feel it might be possible to design a drug that interferes with Ghrelin receptor growth hormone secretagogue 1 receptor or GHSR and help better diet drugs thus helping people with eating disorders.

Even though there are a number of diet drugs available in the market like Phentermine, Adipex, Didrex, Meridia, Acomplia and many more, none of them have been advised for long term use and sometimes a short period of four to six weeks is not enough in the management of chronic obesity cases.

Phentermine diet pills have been there in the market for a very long time. Phentermine was first approved by the FDA in 1959. It is still one of the most common prescribed drugs for weight loss. It is an appetite suppressant and doctors advice exercise and diet control along with Phentermine for effective results.

Though all these drugs are approved by FDA, side effects still remain a cause of concern as the clinical trials are for short periods. A few years ago fen-phen reported side effects which caused severe disabilities from heart valve disorders thus causing many deaths. It was later withdrawn from the market. Phentermine is still available in the market under the brand name Adipex and also under its generic name Phentermine.

Phentermine, like many other drugs, works as a neurotransmitter in the brain. It stimulates neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamine. The neurotransmitters signal a flight response in the body which, in turn, puts a halt to the hunger signal. As a result, it causes a loss of appetite because the brain does not receive the hunger message.

Phentermine and its brand names are widely available on internet pharmacies. One can take Phentermine very easily and one might even get Phentermine Diet Pills as compared to the drug store. Most of the Phentermine online are produced of relatively familiar ingredients. One must be extremely careful while buying these prescription drugs online.
