There is a big increase in the number of
people opting for obesity surgery. The rise in the surgery
to curtail obesity is witnessed in various developed and developing
countries such as the U.S., U.K other countries of Europe.
The reason behind the increase in the surgery is the fact
that people are more aware of surgery as an option and its
benefits to overcome obesity and specifically morbid obesity.
The craze of surgery has grown so much that
more than 4,000 operations are expected to be carried out
in England alone during 2005. According to the British Obesity
Surgery Patient Organization (Bospa), the rise is witnessed
due to the fact that more surgeons have been trained to perform
operations and increased awareness that the surgery is a viable
option for fighting the dreaded ailment called obesity.
Though it's a wonderful way of tackling
the problem of overweight still the surgery should be considered
as the last resort as it requires long-term care after the
operation for attaining maximum benefit.
