According to Dr. Ruth Collins-Nakai, president of the Canadian
Medical Association, Junk food should be taxed to combat the
epidemic of childhood obesity. Collins-Nakai is a renowned
cardiologist who works with young people and accrding to her
- Canada has the second-highest rate of pre-school obesity
in the world, after China.
Collins-Nakai stated that healthy choices
should be and more readily available. The corollary is that
you make unhealthy choices less available and one way to do
that is to tax them. Her comments go beyond a resolution passed
at the CMA's last general meeting, which called on governments
to ban junk food sales at all schools in Canada.
Obesity can lead to grave health implications
but with the proper usage of diet
pills such as phentermine, it can be controlled for a
short span of time.
