Teenage Obesity - A threat for tomorrow

July 25, 2006

The other day I heard one mother talking to another in the park "My daughter Jane has just turned thirteen last month and living with her has become a nightmare". The other asked "why do you say that Tina?" Tina replied "Joyce, Jane has become so temperamental these days. She has been gorging on all fast foods, just lies on the couch and watches TV and everyday we have a fight about her exercise. It's becoming too much for me to handle.
I never imagined that a teenage daughter can be so difficult".

Conversations like these are common in today's world. Teenage obesity has become a modern day epidemic and studies indicate that the numbers are increasing everyday. Modern day teenagers are rapidly becoming couch potatoes under the rapid and increasing influence of television. Lack of exercise coupled with home delivered junk foods like pizzas and burgers have contributed to teen obesity and a variety of linked disorders later in life like heart diseases and blood pressure problems.

Moreover, obesity also cuts the life expectancy of an individual. Studies suggest that obese teenagers can lose up to 4 to 20 years of their lives depending on their obesity levels. Obesity in teens can give rise to disorders like depression, anorexia and bulimia and other nervous disorders. What is the reason for this increase in obesity for teenagers? Doctors suggest that sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating patterns coupled with a lack of exercise have contributed to the increase in obesity amongst teenagers.

Computer and video games also contribute significantly to the increase in inactive lifestyles. Infact, National association for Sport and Physical Education suggests that only 25% US kids are physically active. With these alarming statistics, it is no surprise that today's youth is considered the most inactive generation in history. However, all is not lost.

Diet pills like Phentermine,Meridia and Ionamin promise a safe weight loss for teenagers. When coupled with a healthy lifestyle change, which includes exercising and sensible eating habits, these pills can help reduce weight safely and effectively. Weight loss pills like Meridia and Ionamin can serve as a beacon of hope for this generation and help them to kick start their way to a healthy life.
