GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare is hoping that before
the end of this year, consumers will be able to the fat-blocking
pill without a doctor's prescription.
It would be the first over-the-counter diet pill to win
approval from the Food & Drug Administration. The drug
company still needs final FDA approval before it can sell
an over-the-counter version of orlistat, a diet pill already
marketed in prescription form as Xenical. Phentermine,
Adipex and Xenical are some of the well known diet pills available
for the treatment of obesity.
