Obesity
can be life threatening at times. It can lead to severe ailments
such as cancer, one of the most dreaded diseases of our time.
Cancer is responsible for about 25 percent of deaths every
year. By 2020, the increase in cancer is predicted to be more
than 14 million people world wide. Most of us are aware of
the health risks associated with overweight or obesity, such
as diabetes and heart disease, but we have never considered
obesity and its relationship to cancer development.
Studies have revealed that only about one in four people
know that obesity is also a risk factor for cancer but in
reality, being overweight or obese greatly increases the risk
of dying from cancer. Cancer is normally caused by out-of-control
cell growth. Being overweight works in a variety of ways to
increase cancer risk as it acts on cancer by increasing the
body's levels of hormones, like estrogen or insulin.
