Many weight loss products available in China contain fenfluramine,
a proscribed substance in Korea. The Korean consulate in Shanghai
warned that people who bring the medication into Korea could
face up to 10 years in jail or end up paying a fine of US
$100,000.
The appetite
suppressant fenfluramine causes dizziness, vomiting, stomach
ache and diarrhea. There have also been death reports among
people who use Chinese made diet medication. Consulate also
alarmed people against buying diet medication whose active
ingredients are unclear in China. Obesity is emerging as a
major health concern and weight
loss products are much in demand after many obese people
worldwide have began an endeavor to lose weight in a hurry.
