On a drive to help young Americans
in their Weight control regimen, Bill Clinton visited Public
School 128 in Washington Heights yesterday.
He announced the unification of his Harlem-based foundation
with the American Heart Association to counter child obesity
in the U.S.
Clinton, who himself has struggled with his weight all his
life and recently had heart surgery, said, “The truth
is that children are consuming more sugar and fatty foods
than ever before. You have the onset of adult diabetes in
children now, plainly because of their eating habits, aggravated
by the lack of exercise."
A PS 128 teacher acknowledged, “A lot of our kids,
when they go home, they don't have activities to do - they're
in front of the TV.”
According to the Heart Association, over 16% of American
children and adolescents are classified as overweight or obese
- four times more than two decades ago.
Clinton’s move towards Obesity epidemic has clearly
complemented the efforts towards a healthy lifestyle for younger
generation.
