Ten to fifteen minutes of laughter can burn up to 40 calories
a day, cited a research conducted in Vanderbilt University
by experts. The total weight of a person and the intensity
of his laughter determine the amount of weight
loss in each person.
Forty-five couples and pairs of friends participated in the
research. Each couple or pair sat in the closed room and watched
TV. The researchers measured the amount of oxygen taken in
and the carbon dioxide breathed out in order to know the calories
people burnt. Monitors were fitted to record heart rates and
microphones to trace laughter. Comedy scenes and monotonous
clippings were interchanged to see the difference in energy
loss while laughing and not laughing.
