A new dissertation on the medical changes in Joseon Dynasty
of Korea studies Obese and diabetic Kings and puts light on
the therapies the Kings had received during their period of
rule. According to the thesis, the Great King Sejong never
enjoyed a meal without meat. Inactivity and dislike for exercises
made him obese. Observations on the jars of water he drank
per day reveal that the Great King also endured diabetes.
Obesity is a growing epidemic which needs immediate attention
from all health authorities. Developed countries like America
and Britain are facing another dangerous
condition termed childhood obesity. In this context a thesis
on the lifestyles of Kings and various treatments they adopted
puts light on the obesity issue which needs to be dealt with
in utter seriousness today.
