The FDA refused to let go of Meridia, the weight loss drug
following a petition by a Public citizen to ban the drug due
to its high risk heart attack factor in some patients. The
FDA is convinced that Meridia's overall benefit outweighs
its risks. They warned that weight loss drugs are only for
obese people and others shouldn't try to misuse it.

of Meridia. However FDA says there is no enough proof that
the reported cases were due to Meridia's side effect. FDA
has taken notice and has kept the weight
loss pills under strict monitoring. Clinical studies indicate
that Meridia can help people lose 5 to 10 percent of body
weight when used properly with a balanced diet and exercise
program. Meridia is a product of Abbott Laboratories.
