Obese individuals have an increased risk of developing leukemia.
Leukemia is cancer of the blood forming organs characterized
by abnormal proliferation of white blood cells. The recent
research indicated a strong link between obesity and leukemia.
The study was conducted on 41,000 individuals by researchers
at the Cancer Council Victoria in Australia. They weighed
the relationship between BMI [Body Mass Index] and the risk
of Leukemia. People who had BMI levels over 25 had fivefold
increased chances of developing leukemia. Every four inch
waist increase beyond 37 inches witnessed a 35 percent risk
of this form of cancer. Obesity carries with it the risks
of various types of cancers. Controlling the epidemic is the
only way to resolve the threatening situation.
